Some cool creative majors

Since we've been deep in the websites of many schools helping students find majors and programs of interest we've uncovered some majors which your student may think is just for them. Here is a sampling:

Design Engineering Concentration ScB at Brown University: This concentration of courses allows students to combine their interests in various engineering disciplines to solve important societal issues while taking into account sustainability and cultural issues.

Computer Science and Animation BS at DePaul University: This major could be perfect for students who love the programming aspect of animation but who also want to use their creative skills. This program is geared for students who are interested in being an Animation or Game Art Technical Director.

Museum Studies BA/MA at George Washington University (Corcoran College of Art): Perfect for students who love history (not necessarily art history) and who want to study collections management, conservation, museum administration, and public engagement.

Humanities, Computing and Design BS at Rochester Institute of Technology: This is one of their New Economy Majors, which focus on educating students for careers in future, high growth industries. This major educates students on incorporating new technologies into businesses, museums, education, healthcare, politics and more.

Business of Art and Design BA at Ringling College of Art and Design: Teaches students the financial, marketing and overall business aspects of running creative organizations.

Public Relations, Advertising and Entertainment Marketing BA at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Chapman University: For students who want to market films and TV shows, this is a perfect major as they provide the marketing brains for much of the student film and animation projects at Dodge.

Global Film Art BFA at Emerson College: This is a fantastic film program for a film student who desires an international experience and education. Though taught in English, students attend school in Paris, the Netherlands, Boston, and Los Angeles with a mix of filmmaking courses and film studies courses.

Preservation Design BFA at Savannah College of Art and Design: This is a great major for students interested in history, art, and building with their hands. Because the school is located in historic Savannah, students have many opportunities to practice their craft locally.

BXA Program at Carnegie Mellon University: This program allows students to combine their interest in the arts with a variety of programs in their other schools: Humanities, Science, Computer Science, Engineering or Engineering Studies. Each of these very rigorous four year BXA majors requires students to fulfill general education components, arts components and components in the third area of study.

Screenwriting and Playwriting at Westphal/Drexel University: This major allows you to learn both disciplines which is unusual as many creative writing programs focus on one or the other. This Westphal major includes a co-op as part of the Drexel system so students have the opportunity to work in their field before graduation.

360 Degree Course Clusters at Bryn Mawr College: (Even though Bryn Mawr is a women's college, all students from Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore can apply to participate.) This three course cluster allows students to explore new topics, subjects, and skills that are centered around a given theme with each cluster including a travel component as well. Past topics have included: Science, Democracy and Truth (courses in Biology and Philosophy); Textiles in Context (courses in Chemistry and History of Art); and Children's Literature (courses in Creative Writing, English and Sociology).

Entertainment Design at Ringling College of Art and Design: This major teaches students to design and implement built experiences for a variety of settings including museum exhibits, retail stores, sporting events and the like. This is a great major for students who want to produce physical entertainment focused spaces.

Game Sound Design at Champlain College: This major allows students to design all the audio components required to make an engaging game. Champlain is known for its game art and design focus and this new major adds to this group of majors.

Comedy Writing and Performance at Columbia College Chicago: This major is unusual as it combines both writing and acting, and students spend a semester at SCTV as well as another semester in LA.
